The Fog Rolls In

The planet Neptune is a force that moves through the collective, but also envelopes it. Some keywords for Neptune are illusion, mass manipulation, "spiritualized" love, ecstatic devotion, dissolution of boundaries, and the imagination. Neptune's role is to create a pull through images, sounds, dreams, memory that brings us into union with the divine. In astrology, we look at Neptune in the signs to see trends in culture, like theme in movies, music and fashion. Neptune is the planetary inspiration for "what moves us" at the soul level, and brings us together in recognition that we're One.

High Tech Wonders

Neptune has been in Aquarius since 1988 and will stay in this sign until 2012. (Take note: Neptune will dip into the waters of Pisces from April 4th to August 4th, 2011.) This puts a mystical-imaginal spin on areas that are ruled by Aquarius. We see great innovation in technology, and its use as a way to bring people together (social networking). Some imaginative uses of technology, like in movies, have brought down the barriers of time. The past looks more real, with special effects projected on blue screens, that blend with more traditional 3D filmmaking. Time is dissolved, and the past comes alive.

There's also a theme of parallel worlds and dimensions. Neptune in Aquarius brings into culture the idea that we're multi-dimensional, and have lived many lives. It popularizes energy medicine and astrology, as a way to understand cycles of time.

Coming Together

New technologies allow us to have virtual meet-ups and talk via Skype, while seeing the other person's face on the computer screen. The vision of the future that I grew up watching on The Jetsons is here! This takes down boundaries of country, race, religion, as we exchange notes. The messages of revolution (whether manipulated by a higher hand or not) are documented via conduits like Twitter and Facebook. Currents of hope, despair and possibilities move through the web at lightning speed.

The Internet has become a way for groups to spontaneously form and act as a unified whole. Neptune in Aquarius brings kindred spirits together to champion different causes, as "dream teams" that may only exist for a short while, for a specific cause. The net makes it possible for global networks to form, and to spread word as fast as you can say it. It truly reflects the fiery electricity of Uranus-ruled Aquarius meeting the heart of the collective (Neptune).

Rebellions of the Heart

In this period, we've seen the largest gatherings for peace ever witnessed on the planet. After the trauma of Sept 11th, the global heart came to a standstill, and was shared in a moment of silence. And in the 2003 build-up to the Iraq War, upwards of 35 million people marched around the globe, showing a strong collective yearning for peace, not war. This has been repeated in global events, with spontaneous vigils and a cry for a higher truth to clear the clouds of deceit obscuring them. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, a higher octave of Mercury, and through the Neptune conduit, seeks a finer order of the global heart and mind.

Since Neptune dissolves, this transit also causes some groups to fade away. New groups form based on shared purpose or belief. Remarkable group activities involve coming together to support the downtrodden. What makes this kind of group activity different is its inclusivity. It is organized beyond superficial labels, and based more on a spark coming from the spiritual essence. In the best kinds of Neptune in Aquarius groups, there's a respect for individuality, as well as a group identity, and both are encouraged.

The Dark Side Every influence has the potential to evoke negative effects, as well as positive. What competes with the finer vibes of Neptune, is it's use as a tool of deception. There's a fog with Neptune that puts a haze on whatever it touches. And we've been living through a time of incredible deception, almost otherworldly in its power and hold on the masses. Technology is used to shape mass perception, with manipulated news images. It's well known that mind control techniques are being used in everything from launching a new product to launching pre-emptive war. It's a time to exercise caution, and to know that things are not always as they seem.Conspiracies, Paranoia and Crazy-Talk

The level of trickery going on, and disinformation, leads to a lot of mass confusion. If you employ logic to cut through the confusion, you might then be labeled "crazy." If your perception of reality doesn't match up with another persons, it's like you're living in parallel worlds. The clashes between the two groups of thought are emotionally intense, since there's so much at stake. Groups like left/right political affiliations get played off each other, which ties up a lot of emotional group energy. What a waste! This is the swirly eddy of Neptune in Aquarius that keeps some groups from moving on down the stream.

Part of Neptune in Aquarius, though, is being able to sense a matrix behind events. This has led to a rise in research about conspiracies, in a quest for a higher truth. There's a huge interest in secret societies, symbols, the occult and questions about whether there are below-the-radar force manipulating the consciousness of the masses.
